Prep work

Welcome to my blog! I will use this only (probably) for the next few weeks to talk about my trip to Denver for the Democratic National Convention (DNC) with The Washington Center.

I don't leave until Saturday but I thought I should give this a trial run in case I get out there and realize I have no idea how to create and update a blog. Right now I'm in the middle of packing and waiting to get out of town...I'm packing for 2 weeks in Denver AND to return to Iowa. Since I miss the first week of class, I've got to drive back to school as soon as I get home so I'll have no time to get ready. I've also been checking my email frequently today; we were told we would get our roommate assignments around the first of August (I'll be staying in the dorms at Regis University) but we haven't yet...Today is also the day we are supposed to find out if we will get tickets to see Obama deliver his nomination acceptance speech at Invesco Field. It holds about 75,000 people and tickets CANNOT be bought. As a matter of fact, when I applied for the ticket I had to promise that I would not sell the tickets to anyone. They also have people checking for tickets on Craigslist and Ebay, and tickets found for sale will become invalid, which I thought was interesting. I haven't found out either way yet, but I'm hopeful I will get a ticket.

The Washington Center (the organiztion I will be attending the convention through) has been very vague about about what its students will be doing out in Denver, but we did recieve a 20-something page document about the assignments we will be submitting to them. Because I do recieve 2 semester hours of credit for the trip, they "grade" our participation (I feel like it might be more pass/fail though) and we are required to write journal entries about our days and submit them. I plan on typing them and putting them up here, because I think they might be interesting. We're required to talk about the volunteer work we complete, reflect on the speakers we hear, and give a basic layout of what our days look like so they know we've been productive and helpful.

Please feel free to leave comments or anything else, I probably will not post again until I am out in Denver, but I guess you never know :)
Thanks for reading!
